Samsung’s One UI 6.1 is set to roll out to select Galaxy flagships on March 28th, 2024. The update was originally announced in February and brings new AI features to 2023 phones. The Samsung Galaxy S23 series could be the first in line for the update. A notification was already pushed to eligible users but this was only limited to China market. Now, the company confirmed the update will also hit global markets on the exact same date.

Samsung One UI 6.1 update rolling out

  • Samsung says the One UI 6.1 update will show up first on unlocked and carrier editions, including Verizon, AT&T, US Cellular, etc. 
  • The Samsung tablets will also get the update later this week but the rollout might spill over into next week.
Samsung Galaxy AI
  • The full Galaxy AI Suite will be included in the One UI 6.1 update for eligible devices and this includes Google’s Circle to Search, Live Translate, Chat Assist and more. 
  • Samsung also teased that these AI features might reach the Galaxy S22 lineup eventually.
  • The One UI 6.1 should also bring the April security patch since the March patch is already available.

One UI 6.1 features

  • Chat Assist: This feature relies on AI to enhance message tone and translate messages to 13 different languages.
  • Generative Edit: This allows you to expand the corners of the image by using AI. This auto-fills a matching background and lets you retouch and remove unwanted people, animals, and objects from a photo.
  • Live Translate: The Galaxy AI will auto-translate the foreign language natively and these languages include Korean, Chinese Simplified, Hindi, English, Japanese, French, German, Italian, Polish, Portuguese, Spanish, Thai, and Vietnamese.
  • Circle to Search with Google: You can hard-press on the home button and then circle on the thing you want to Google about. This feature relies on Google Lens to fetch results.
  • Note Assist: This allows you to create formats, AI-based summaries and translate notes.
  • Browsing Assist: This generates a summary of the page you are browsing.
  • Edit Suggestion: This suggests changes to the photo.
  • Instant Slow-mo: This allows you to watch pre-recorded normal-speed videos in slow motion by adding extra frames.
