One UI 6: redesigned quick settings panel, UI changes
The new update seems to be focusing on refinements rather than being a major overall upgrade. The quick settings panel has been redesigned with clearer controls for Bluetooth and Wi-Fi. You can now control the Dark mode and Eye comfort shield settings directly below the brightness slider. The media player has also been revamped with newer animations.
The lock screen is even more customizable while on the home screen, we can see slightly different icons and more saturated system colours along with bolder sliders. The new font style seems to be used widely used across the OS. The back gesture animation has been updated slightly and the battery settings page has been revamped to show more info.
One UI 6: Camera, editor, emojis and weather app
You can now set up custom camera widgets to start shooting in a preferred mode, change photo resolution with one tap, and customise picture watermarks. Similar to iOS 17, there is now a level line on the camera viewfinder. Scanning documents has gotten easier and you can also choose post-processing time in case you are in a hurry for a picture output. In terms of video recording, there is now an Auto FPS setting and easy-to-use video size options.
You can make quick edits from the details page of the image in Gallery. A bunch of features have been added to the Photo Editor along with an enhanced layout which now allows you to make way more changes even after saving the image and provides a further set of background and text styles.
Samsung also unveiled a new set of emojis with the One UI 6. There are the default emojis you’ll see across the UI unless an Android app has its own. The weather app has also been redesigned to include more details about conditions such as snowfall, an interactive map view, enhanced illustrations and a new weather widget for the home screen. The content-sharing menu has been slightly improved with previews for the content you’re sharing and more sharing options.
One UI 6: Multitasking, in-built app updates, and more
The Pop-up previews of your apps will now remain open even if you go to the Recents screen, further, you can now drag and drop between the Gallery and other apps. Samsung Internet will allow you to play videos in the background and comes with an enhanced tab list for larger screens. Bixby text call has been updated with custom greetings and an option to enable the feature during an ongoing call.
Similar to what Focus modes on iOS do, the One UI 6 update will allow you to have a custom lock screen based on your mode. The smart suggestions page has a new look and feel, My Files gives you options to free up storage easily, and the Airplane mode now remembers your preferences for Bluetooth and Wi-Fi toggles. Mobile Hotspot now has a one-time password option, Opus and LC3 Bluetooth audio codecs have also been added this time.
Last year, with One UI 5, Android 13 was rolled out to devices starting in October and November (based on the device region). The same timeline is expected to be followed this year with the One UI 6 update arriving to all eligible Samsung Galaxy models by early next year.
