Sex Education Season 4 is coming in 2023, well at least that’s what is highly expected. Millions of fans can’t get enough of Otis Milburn and his mother in this quirky British dramedy that explores the complicated lives of teenagers at a school, who must uncover their love life, school life, and family life while dealing with their developing hormones. After a successful run of three solid seasons, Sex Education is coming back soon for Season 4, with filming already underway. Here are all the details we have on Sex Education Season 4, including the release date on Netflix, cast, storyline, and more.

Sex Education Season 4 expected release

Let’s start with the top question on every Sex Education fan’s mind. When is Season 4 coming out? Given it’s been almost a year and a half since Sex Education Season 3 premiered on Netflix in September 2021. The good news is that the cast of Sex Education Season 4 has been filming since August 2022. However, with reports now suggesting that the shooting might not end before February 2023, it will be a while before the series comes out. We believe post-production might start within the next few weeks and we might be able to see posters, teasers, or Sex Education Season 4 trailers of the show super soon.

Sex Education Season 4 cast: Who is in, who is out

So, Asa Butterfield obviously is back as the wonderful Otis Milburn. This has been confirmed by the actor himself. Apart from him, Gillian Anderson will definitely be back in her extraordinary character of a single mother, Jean Milburn. Eric Effiong (Ncuti Gatwa) is back too, reprising his role as the larger-than-life gay best friend. And, one of the most-loved characters on the show, Emma Mackey, shall be back too as Maeve Wiley.

According to Digital Spy, we can expect these cast members to be back this season: Adam Groff (Connor Swindells), Aimee Gibbs (Aimee-Lou Wood), Jackson Marchetti (Kedar Williams-Stirling), Cal Bowman (Dua Saleh), Ruby Matthews (Mimi Keene), Viv Odusanya (Chinenye Ezeudu), Isaac Goodwin (George Robinson), Michael Groff (Alistair Petrie), and Maureen Groff (Samantha Spiro).

Further, the report reveals that Schitt’s Creek star Dan Levy is making his debut on the British dramedy on Netflix, alongside other names such as Thaddea Graham, Marie Reuther, Felix Mufti, Anthony Lexa, Alexandra James, Reda Elazouar, Bella Maclean, and Imani Yahshua.

Who is not making it, you ask? Unfortunately, Simone Ashley has given in to her Bridgerton fame and opted out of the Sex Education Season 4 cast. Ola Nyman and Patricia Allison will also be out of the season. Lily, too, played by Tanya Reynolds, is not back as her intriguing character.

Sex Education Season 4 plot details

Let’s start with what Netflix says about Sex Education Season 4. Following the closure of Moordale Secondary, the students are navigating new territory at the high-tech and progressive Cavendish Sixth Form College. As we saw in Season 3, the legendary Moordale Secondary, infamous for its mischievous students and staff, shut down as the students move to Cavendish Sixth in the upcoming season. And, you can expect a completely different vibe here as positivity is the focus at this new school. There are yoga sessions, kind people are popular here, and sustainability is key for management.

Apart from this change, we can also expect to see Otis’ new clinic initiative, Aimee’s taking up Art A-level to experiment with something bold, Adam struggling with mainstream education as he too takes up a challenge, and Maeve off to the US, living her literal dream at Wallace University.

Sex Education Season 4 teaser and trailer, when?

As we mentioned earlier, Sex Education Season 4 filming is yet to officially be concluded but it should be over around February 2023. After that is done, we can expect the teasers and posters to start arriving in March and April this year, while trailers could be out in May/ June and a release in June/ July. That said, these are all estimated timelines based on previous seasons, and the actual timeline could be completely different.

We can also expect Netflix to give Sex Education Season 4 a September 2023 release to keep it in line with the last season which came out in September 2021. We will have to wait the next few weeks to get an idea of what is coming. Some bloopers from Season 3 can keep you busy until that happens, though.

Sex Education Season 4 Cast comments

Now, the fun part is when some of the main cast give out hints of what we can expect from their characters and the plot in the upcoming season. Firstly, the quirky Aimee Lou Wood told Bustle, “She’s not got her best friend with her, she’s not got a boyfriend for the first time ever,” with Maeve off to the US. “Also, she’s at this new school and she doesn’t have any mates. But what’s so amazing is that through art, Aimee finds something that connects her to herself. I’ve always felt that Aimee isn’t stupid, and people think that she is. She’s so astute and emotionally intelligent and has an incredible imagination. This season, she realises that she has a brilliant brain and has got loads to say,” she added.

Asa Butterfield spoke to Cosmopolitan about the expected theme of Season 4. “[I want a] Christmas movie! Sex Education-themed. We don’t know [whether there will be more.] It’s out of our hands at this point. I wish I could tell you more, I genuinely don’t know.” “I’d love to do a fourth season because we have so much fun on this show. At the same time, we’ve been doing it for three years now, and I’d be happy to say goodbye to these characters… We’ll have to see,” he added.
