If you're using the free Spotify tier in India, you will no longer be able to use the repeat function, rewind to a specific part of the song, go back to a previous song or rearrange the order in a playlist. These features have been removed and will no longer be available starting today, according to a report by Musically. Spotify will also run in-app messages to inform users about the changes, the report added.
Spotify will now keep 'Smart Shuffle' as the default way for songs to play in the free tier. For those unaware, Smart Shuffle adds songs that aren't part of your playlist. These are recommendations that Spotify makes based on your listening style. So even the normal shuffle feature won't be available to free users.
Rest of the features are still available, and these include picking and choosing the songs, and no restrictions on the number of streaming hours. So you can continue listening to as many songs as you want in a daily provided with ads playing in between. The decision behind Spotify removing these features is to maintain a common experience for its free tier across all markets, according to a MoneyControl report.
Spotify has several subscription plans in India including bite-sized ones starting at Rs 7 per day, and Rs 25 per week. Its monthly plans are priced at Rs 119 per month for individuals, and Rs 149 for duos. Spotify Family plan that supports up to six accounts is priced at Rs 179 per month.
