  • Meta says that you can interact with the AI assistant like a person. The AI assistant has been developed using a custom model from Llama 2 (generative text model) and Meta’s latest large language model (LLM) research. It has partnered with Microsoft’s Bing to get real-time information for text-based chats.
  • Meta AI also offers a tool for image generation. It can basically create “photorealistic images from your text prompts in seconds” that you can share in the chat.  You can get this by typin @MetaAI /imagine followed by a text prompt.
  • Meta AI is available in one-on-one chats, and in group chats as well. It’s currently available in the US only, and the company hasn’t announced plans for a global release yet. The AI assistant is available on WhatsApp, Messenger, and Instagram.
  • Meta says that its AI assistant can “make recommendations in a pinch, make you laugh when you need a good joke, settle a debate in a group chat and generally be there to answer questions or teach you something new.”
  • It also showed an example of asking Meta AI for a mocktail recommendation.

Meta also developed 28 more AIs, and even partnered with actors and internet celebrities to create personalised AIs. Some of them include Dwyane Wade, Kendall Jenner, MrBeast, Naomi Osaka, and Snoop Dogg. Each of them have dedicated AI profiles on Instagram and Facebook. Meta plans to add more characters in the coming weeks. These AI characters are available in beta in the United States.

Meta also introduced AI stickers that for WhatsApp, Messenger, Instagram, and Facebook Stories. The AI tool can generate customised stickers for your chats and stories based on text prompts. It’s similar to what Snapchat already provides with its AI-generated Bitmoji stickers. Meta’s AI stickers will start rolling out to select English-language users over the next month.
