The Xiaomi CyberDog, a quadruped robot with a wide range of use cases, is now in India after Xiaomi unveiled the robot pet in August 2021. A far cry from one of the company’s typical product experiences, the CyberDog is a four-legged robot that has computer vision for recognising objects, faces and mapping surfaces, and a host of other artificial intelligence chops to work as an advanced, robotic home assistant. While you can’t quite buy one for yourself in India just yet, Xiaomi is giving you a chance to take a look and experience the CyberDog at a store near you, for a short while.

Xiaomi CyberDog price, how to see
According to a Xiaomi India statement, the CyberDog can be seen by users at Mi Home offline stores in Mumbai, Delhi, Kolkata, Bangalore, Chennai and Ahmedabad. The company hasn’t mentioned for how long would the four-legged robot assistant be on show in India, or if this is a precursor to the company gauging user interest in a unique product category in the country.
In China, the CyberDog costs CNY 9,999, or approx. Rs 1.18 lakh.
What the Xiaomi CyberDog can do
The Xiaomi CyberDog, made of plastic and weighing almost 14 kg, is powered by Nvidia’s Jetson Xavier NX AI supercomputer, which provides the central power for all of its operations. This is further combined with 128GB SSD onboard. The source code of the quadruped robot dog is open sourced, which Xiaomi says will appeal to developers worldwide in order to build more services on top of what the robot is already capable of.
In terms of its capabilities, Xiaomi says that CyberDog is powered by 11 “high precision” LiDAR sensors that guide its movements by offering real-time depth and location mapping to its limb motors. It can perform high-speed movements and actions such as backflips at a speed of 3.2m/s. It can understand and respond to voice commands, and is controlled using a smartphone app.
The Xiaomi CyberDog has a touchpad on its head, which is used to check the battery status. It can last upto 160 minutes on a single charge, depending upon the usage. For It takes four hours to charge the robot via a USB-C. It has two USB-C ports and an HDMI port for attaching additional accessories.
It also has AI-powered cameras that can interact with surroundings, combined with binocular fisheye cameras for ultra-wide angle fields of view. This, along with Intel’s RealSense depth module and computer vision algorithms, helps the robot perceive depth and navigate its surroundings, and a “centimetre grade avoidance system” that keeps it from bumping into your furniture.
The Xiaomi CyberDog can also recognise human postures and faces, as well as voice commands through preset wake words. The open sourcing of the quadruped robot, says Xiaomi, can let developers create “unforetold possibilities” in terms of what the robot can do. It even comes with added USB-C and HDMI ports, through which developers can attach extra sensors and cameras to augment more advanced abilities as well.
At the time of unveiling, Xiaomi had made 1,000 units of the CyberDog.
