Xiaomi might soon unveil a new smartwatch under the Mi brand, dubbed Mi Watch. This information comes courtesy the recently updated Google Wear OS app version 2.28, which contains "xiaomi_companion_name" with the value "Mi Wear" strings. While Xiaomi currently offers Mi Fit app for its fitness bands and Mi Health for lifestyle products, there's no 'Mi Wear' app. The strings are referred to Wear OS app that seems to be checking for a "PartnerCompanion" app. Wear OS manufacturers usually offer a companion client app using which users can manage their wearable devices, for example Huawei Wear app for Huawei Watch and Watch 2. Hints of Wear OS adding support for a companion app was first spotted back in July with Wear OS 2.26.
Given how Xiaomi product line-up uses Mi branding for its TVs, fitness bands, and phones, we expect it to repeat the same for its smartwatches as well. Xiaomi currently has a partnership with Huami for Mi Bands, so it might continue the same for its Mi smartwatches as well. The existence of Mi Wear term in the Wear OS APK serves the purpose of suggesting that Xiaomi is indeed working on a smartwatch that runs on Google's WearOS. Unfortunately, no other details regarding the product are revealed just yet, but we hope to come across more information going forward.
Xiaomi has recently launched Mi Band 4 in India. It comes with a 0.95-inch OLED colour display, heart rate sensor, water-resistance and customisation option, where users can change display faces. It packs a 135mAh battery that is claimed to last up to 20 days on a single. The band 4 lets users control connected smartphone's music. It can detect swimming activities such as Freestyle, Backstroke, Butterfly stroke, and Medley.
