Listed among the cast when the film was in production, Nick Nolte had much of his material cut from the final release. As such, he is uncredited for his brief appearance.
The film shares many similarities to Sam Mendes' Road to Perdition (2002); a longtime, trusted hitman (Tom Hanks, Liam Neeson) is put at odds with their boss (Paul Newman, Ed Harris) when their sons make things personal (Daniel Craig, Boyd Holbrook) and target their own children (Tyler Hoechlin, Joel Kinnaman). As a result, a master assassin (Jude Law, Common) is dispatched to get rid of them. Both films also conclude at a family cabin.
Liam Neeson has two sons in real life named Micháel and Daniel (Danny), which are the names of the two boys in the film Run All Night
At one point during a street chase, Jimmy (Liam Neeson), runs past a billboard for Mad Max: Fury Road (2015). That film was also produced by the same studio (Warner Bros.), was scored by the same composer (Tom Holkenborg), and the trailer for the film was attached to all release copies of this film.
During the bar scene, Liam Neeson mentions having a drink with Mickey Featherstone. In real life, Mickey Featherstone was a member of the New York City Irish-American gang called The Westies, based out of Hell's Kitchen.
"Jimmy Conlon: I've done terrible things in my life. Things for which I can never be forgiven. I betrayed friends, turned my back on the ones closest to me. I've always known that my sins would eventually catch up to me. No sin goes unpunished in this life. Your life doesn't flash before your eyes when you are dying. That's bullshit. It's your regrets that haunt you in your final moments. Everything you've failed to be. Everyone you let down. Everything you'd go back and change, if only you had more time."
"Shawn Maguire: I'm the only one ever cared about you. And all of that ended an hour ago when you killed my son. I'm comin' after your boy with everything I got. Jimmy Conlon: I won't let you take him, Shawn. Shawn Maguire: You got no choice. And when it's done, and it will be done, you and I are gonna meet back here at this restaurant, at this same table that I used to share with my boy, and I'm gonna look you in the eyes just like you're lookin' me in the eyes right now. And I'm gonna see how empty they are without your son in the world. Same thing I saw in my wife's eyes; same thing you're seein' in my eyes. And when I see that... then I'll let you die."
