Affordable electric car in India?

A Mumbai-based startup called PMV Electric is currently working on an electric quadricycle, called the EaS-E, that could seat 2 people. The company suggests that the vehicle is in the final stages of prototyping and is aiming for a launch in July. However, the vehicle will take some time to reach the production stage.

The vehicle called the EaS-E derives its name from various connotations that mean ‘Easy transportation powered by batteries and motors’ and ‘Eco-friendly and Sustainable Electric vehicle’. The EaS-E electric quadricycle is a compact quadricycle that aims to be frugal and keep costs in check. Founder Kalpit Patel has expressed his desire to price the car at just Rs 4 lakh.

The PMV EaS-E will utilise a Permanent Magnet Synchronous Motor based powertrain. The vehicle claims to have a top speed of 70kmph and deliver a range of 160km. The company also suggests a charge time of about 4 hours. The vehicle, which can be classified as a quadricycle, has a length of 2915 mm with a 2080 mm wheelbase, 1600 mm of height, and 1157 mm in width. The EaS-E also gets 170 mm of ground clearance. Interestingly, the two passengers are seated back to back much like on a motorbike instead of an adjacent seating setup as found in most cars.

The EaS-E will utilise a High Tensile Tubular Space Frame and will get a front-wheel-drive setup. Upfront, the vehicle will get a disc brake system while at the back it will get a drum setup. The braking system will also provide regenerative braking. The feature list brings along – DRLs, Cruise Control, Steering Mounted Controls, LCD Digital Instrument Cluster, AC, Remote Keyless Entry, Power Windows, Electronically Controller Mirrors, AM/FM/Bluetooth/USB, Rear View Camera, etc.

The closest rival to the PMV EaS-E is the Bajaj Qute quadricycle that uses an ICE and is priced at around Rs 2.6 lakhs (ex-showroom).
