Fake reviews on Amazon, Google and other sites may land vendor in court: govt prepares guidelines

E-commerce companies might face wrath if these framework guidelines become mandatory.

In a move to crack down on fake reviews and unverified ratings on e-commerce platforms, the government of India has drafted a framework for companies like Google, Facebook and Instagram, Amazon, as well as food delivery or travel apps that depend on customer reviews to validate products and services. This should enable more authentic and less misleading reviews/ratings for users. The new guidelines designed by the Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS) will come into effect from November 25th.
