Pixel 8 and Pixel 8 Pro prices (expected)

As per tipster Kamila Wojciechowska, who claims to have got a copy of Google’s marketing material, the base model of the Pixel 8 could be $100 pricier than the Pixel 7. So, the Pixel 8 series could start at $699 (roughly around Rs 58,097). A price hike was also reported by 9to5Google but the site claimed both the vanilla and the Pro model could get a higher price tag.

Pixel 8 series pricing and specs

Meanwhile, the tipster says the Pixel 8 Pro could start at the same $899 (roughly around Rs 74,720) price.

If true, this will be an interesting pricing decision.

The regular Pixel model is Google’s better-selling phone out of the two models. The company perhaps thinks people would be ready to pay a premium for this model as it is expected to get some upgrades this year.

Google Pixel 8 upgrades over Pixel 7 (rumoured)

  • Display: Google Pixel 8 could have a slightly smaller 6.2-inch FHD+ OLED screen compared to a 6.3-inch screen on the Pixel 7. The refresh rate is also said to be 60-120Hz while it was only 90Hz on the former. The brightness could also peak at 2,000 nits this time compared to 1,000 nits on the Pixel 7.
  • Processor: Google is expected to equip the Pixel 8 with a Tensor G3 processor with Titan M2 security chip. We suppose this SoC could pack newer AI capabilities and performance promises compared to the Tensor G2 on the Pixel 7.

  • Software: The Pixel 8 series is likely to ship with Android 14 out of the box with some Pixel-exclusive features. Google could give 7 years of OS and security updates.
  • Cameras: The sensors could be the same as before: 50MP+12MP (ultrawide) duo on the back and 10.5MP selfie camera on the front. But, Google could have improved the camera tuning and software features like Real Tone, Super Res Zoom, a face-swapping trickery in Magic Editor, etc.
  • Battery: The battery size has increased to 4,575 mAh from 4355 mAh on the predecessor. This could be coupled with up to 27W fast charging while it was 20W on the former.
  • Connectivity and other features: The rest of the repertoire could consist of updated connectivity options like Wi-Fi 7 and Bluetooth 5.3. It could also bring an under-display fingerprint reader and face recognition.

You can check the complete leaked specs of both Pixel 8 and Pixel 8 Pro here. Besides the specs, the phone could have some design improvements too. From leaks and rumours, we reckon the phones have curved edges, the signature Pixel visor on the back, IP68 ingress protection, etc. We should have concrete details on October 4th when Google finally unveils the new Pixel smartphones.
