Nokia phone maker HMD Global to launch new brand for smartphones, tablets and wearables

• As reported by ET, Ravi Kunwar, HMD Global's Vice President for India and APAC, stated that the new HMD Global brand is set to debut in the first half of 2024, with India as its primary target market.
• The company intends to establish a comprehensive product ecosystem by launching a variety of HMD-branded products, such as smartphones, tablets, feature phones, and IoT devices.
• The pricing of these HMD-branded products will vary across different markets, and they will be designed to cater to specific consumer segments, distinguishing them from the Nokia product line.
• The company intends to produce all of its devices for the new brand in India and will aim to export them to other locations as well.
• HMD Global has apparently teamed up with Foxconn, Dixon, and Lava to produce smartphones in India. Additionally, they are exporting feature phones to African markets.

Jean-Francois Baril, the Co-founder, Chairman, and CEO of HMD Global, recently shared on LinkedIn that the company is preparing to launch its own series of HMD-branded smartphones. He clarified that these new phones will coexist with Nokia phones in the company's offerings, and they are also collaborating with fresh partners.

On the other hand, in addition to the previously introduced Nokia G42 5G smartphone with a 6GB+128GB model in India, the company has now revealed a new version with a 16GB+256GB storage variant.

The Nokia G42 5G comes with a 6.56-inch HD+ display featuring a smooth 90Hz refresh rate. It runs on the Qualcomm Snapdragon 480+ processor. On the rear, you'll find a 50MP main camera, along with a 2MP macro lens and a 2MP depth module. For selfies and video calls, there's an 8MP front camera. The phone is equipped with a sizable 5,000mAh battery that supports fast charging at 20W.
