Huawei Mate Xs foldable smartphone has been officially unveiled. As expected, it succeeds the Mate X foldable phone that was announced last year and brings an upgraded hinge structure. It features a Falcon Wing design with a flip button to unfold it instantly. The Mate Xs packs an 8-inch main screen when unfolded, a 6.38-inch cover display and a 6.6-inch front panel. The multi-window function divides the wide-screen into two independent task interfaces. The handset supports both SA and NSA 5G modes for 5G connectivity. The flexible bionic graphite cooling system offers smooth foldability and balanced heat dissipation. The Huawei Mate Xs also packs a 4,500mAh battery that supports 55W Huawei SuperCharge fast-charging tech.

The Huawei Mate Xs foldable flagship phone is priced at EUR 2,499 (around Rs 1,94,800) for the single 8GB + 512GB model. The smartphone and will go on sale from March.

As for the specifications, the Huawei Mate Xs is powered by the Kirin 990 SoC with 5G connectivity, 8GB RAM and 512GB internal storage. It flaunts an 8-inch main display with 2,480 x 2,200 pixels resolution, a 6.6-inch front-display with 19:5:9 aspect ratio, and a 6.38-inch 25:9 rear panel that can be used as a viewfinder for selfies. The phone boots Android 10 OS with EMUI 10 custom skin on top and Huawei Mobile Services – the smartphone does not have access to Google apps such as Gmail, YouTube etc.
In terms of optics, the Huawei Mate Xs features quad-rear cameras consisting of a 40MP (f/1.8) SuperSensing primary wide sensor, a 16MP ultra-wide-angle lens, an 8MP telephoto lens with 3x optical zoom, and a 3D Time of Flight sensor. The rear cameras can also be used for selfies by folding the Mate Xs. There is a side-mounted fingerprint sensor for security and a 4,500mAh battery with 55W fast charging support. Connectivity options include 5G, 4G VoLTE, dual-band Wi-Fi 802.11, Bluetooth 5.1, GPS, and USB Type-C.
According to the impressions of the people who have access to the device, the Huawei Mate Xs hinge is quite sturdy. On the other hand, the unfolding of the display is accompanied by an audible, crunching noise – but Huawei says this is by design and not a cause for concern.
