  • Apple targets 100 million units to feature the lens.

While the iPhone 14 leaks are continually making headlines, a new leak suggests that the iPhone 15 Pro models feature a 5x periscope camera. In a report from 9To5mac, well-known analyst Jeff Pu has been stated saying that the 2023 iPhone 15 Pro models will come with a periscope lens with 5x optical zoom. The analyst also says a Cupertino-based company has already received samples of the unit and is likely to announce its decision by May 2022.

In case the samples are approved, the unit will be housed in ‘the high-end models of 2023,’ which could be iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 15 Pro Max. Additionally, the lens maker is said to be Lante Optics and could likely deliver 100 million units of the periscope lens to Apple, the report says. If the report is to be believed, this will be the first-ever iPhone to feature a periscope lens. However, it isn’t anything new for the android smartphone world, as many flagships feature a periscope lens.

Previously, we came across a report from Apple analyst Ming-Chi Kuo that suggested the iPhone 15 series will feature a periscope camera for better optical zoom. Additionally, it also said the iPhone 14 will bring significant camera improvements with a 48MP primary camera capable of capturing 8K video. However, the 48MP sensor could be exclusive to the iPhone 14 Pro models.

Separately, the iPhone SE 3 leaks have surfaced recently, which suggest the 2022 iPhone SE will be called iPhone SE+ 5G and could debut alongside the iPad Air. The iPhone SE 3 could debut in 2023 instead of 2024 with a 5.7-inch or 6.1-inch display and is also said to be powered by the A15 bionic processor.
