iOS 17 issues on iPhone 15 series

Since the iPhone 15 ships with iOS 17, there’s really no way to escape the bug, especially if you’re switching from an old iPhone, according to a report by 9to5Mac. What essentially happens is if you select the data transfer option while setting up the iPhone 15, it won’t work, and the setup will get stuck at the Apple logo. The data transfer process won’t be completed.

Apple had first suggested putting the iPhone in DFU or Device Firmware Upgrade mode to complete the setup, but it has now rolled out the iOS 17.0.2 update that should fix this bug. Apple says that those setting up the iPhone 15 should be prompted to update to iOS 17.0.2 before getting to the data transfer option. This way they won’t encounter the problem, and complete setup as normal.

But not all iPhone 15 users are seeing the prompt to update to iOS 17.0.2 during setup, the report added. In such cases, there are two options here where one is to put the iPhone 15 into DFU mode, and the other is to set it up as a new device. Here are the steps as explained by Apple to put the iPhone into DFU mode.

  • Connect your device to your computer with a USB cable.
  • On a Mac with macOS Catalina or later, open the Finder. On a Mac with macOS Mojave or earlier, or on a PC, open iTunes.
  • Keep your device connected and wait until the recovery mode screen appears.
  • Press and quickly release the volume up button then press and quickly release the volume down button.
  • Press and hold the side button until you see the recovery mode screen.
  • When you see the option to Update or Restore, choose Restore.
