As per a report by The Sun, PSG member and FIFA World Cup-winning captain, Lionel Messi in Paris ordered 35 custom iPhones with custom engraving for each of the members of the Argentina National Football team, with their names and jersey numbers. These iPhones are said to have a casing made from 24K gold. While the report does not reveal the iPhone model gifted, the triple rear camera setup in the image suggests it could be the iPhone Pro.

According to the report, the purchase cost him a total of EUR 175,000 or roughly Rs 1.73 crores, which is a miniscule amount for the footballer who is reported to have upwards of $100 million (Rs 820 crores approx) in wealth.

The unique gift of gold-studded iPhones was a result of a discussion between Lionel Messi and the CEO of iDesign Gold, Ben Lyons. According to the report, Messi got in touch with the company right after the World Cup final, wanting to do something special and lasting for his team. However, the decision to not go for usual designer watches or accessories made iDesign Gold opt for this uber-luxurious and custom gift.

To recall, Argentina won the FIFA World Cup 2022 in Qatar just last year. The win came through a penalty shootout that took Messi’s team to the finish line after a scintillating final between Argentina and France. During the entirety of the World Cup, Messi scored a total of 7 goals, to conclude his World Cup outings.
