5 reasons why iPhone XS with Rs 30,000 discount is not a great deal

"iPhone XS is selling on Flipkart at Rs 54,999, a steep Rs 30,000 discount over its previous MOP of ~Rs 85,000"

Flipkart is running a whopping Rs 30,000 discount on Apple's 2018 flagship offering iPhone XS (review). The handset's price in India is currently down to Rs 54,999 from its previous MOP of Rs ~85,000. Despite this huge discount, iPhone XS at Rs 54,999 is not as good a deal as the iPhone 11 (review), which is selling at an effective price Rs 58,900 in the Indian market. While the iPhone 11 price for the base variant with 64GB storage is Rs 64,900, you can get a Rs 6,000 discount via transactions made using HDFC Bank credit and debit cards on Flipkart as well as Amazon.in. Here are 5 reasons why iPhone 11, despite being Rs 3,900 more expensive, is a better deal than the iPhone XS.

  • iPhone 11 has a better chipset
The iPhone 11 rocks Apple's newest A13 Bionic chipset, which is more powerful and power-efficient compared to the A12 SoC of iPhone XS. While you won't notice any real-world difference between the two chipsets, Apple claims that the A13 Bionic is the fastest SoC in a smartphone yet.
  • iPhone 11 offers a bigger display than iPhone XS
iPhone 11 features a 6.1-inch LCD display, marketed by Apple as Liquid Retina display. The screen size is slightly bigger than the iPhone XS, which packs a 5.8-inch Super Retina OLED display. That means you get a bigger display to play around with, which is great whether you watch Netflix a lot or play PUBG often.

However, it's worth mentioning that in terms of display quality and contrast ratio, iPhone XS will be a tad better than its counterpart. Also, as you may know, OLED panels are more power-efficient than an LCD, but Apple has made it up to you by giving the iPhone 11 a bigger battery cell so you won't really feel the difference in battery life here.
  • iPhone XS cameras are no match for iPhone 11
Both handsets rock 12MP dual rear cameras, but that's where the similarities end. iPhone XS sports a 12MP wide-angle sensor and a 12MP telephoto lens; the latter is used for portrait images. On the other hand, the iPhone 11 features a 12MP wide-angle sensor and a 12MP ultra-wide-angle sensor – the latter allows the smartphone to capture more of the scenery compared to the XS thanks to the larger field of view. Moreover, the iPhone 11 can deliver the same portrait images thanks to software wizardry.

When it comes to image quality, here also the iPhone 11 tops the XS. The former nails it thanks to Deep Fusion technology and a dedicated night mode, neither of which has made its way to the XS. For selfies as well, the iPhone 11 – with the new 12MP shooter instead of 7MP sensor – enjoys an upper hand over iPhone XS.
  • iPhone 11 battery lasts a tad longer than iPhone XS
The iPhone 11 trumps iPhone XS in the battery department as well. The handset's 3,110mAh is rated to last longer than iPhone XS that houses a mediocre 2,568mAh battery. Qualitatively speaking, in our iPhone XS review, we found the smartphone to offer average battery life and found ourselves plugging the phone to a charger at the end of the day. On the other hand, we called the iPhone 11 battery life "incredible" in the review.
  • iPhone 11 will get software updates for a longer time
The iPhone 11 runs the latest iOS 13 out of the box, whereas the iPhone XS boots the software via OTA update. Having said that, the Apple software support for a year-old iPhone XS will expire sooner than its counterpart.

The one area where iPhone XS edges past the iPhone 11 is the OLED panel, which is a minor improvement when the other aspects are taken into account. The rest of the features of iPhone 11 and iPhone XS are pretty much the same. They both flaunt almost similar design with a notch-toting display. The handsets come with Face ID tech for security, 64GB storage, 4GB RAM, 18W fast-charging and 7.5W wireless charging support, though you'll have to purchase the chargers separately.
