The Jio AirFiber services will reportedly launch in June or July this year, according to a YouTuber “The Technologist”. The YouTuber has also uploaded a video showcasing what’s said to be the Jio AirFiber, and has demonstrated its unboxing and installation. According to the video, there are two variants of the AirFiber where one is a Wi-Fi router which is non portable, and the other is portable and comes with Wi-Fi 6 support. Even the expected pricing has been tipped with the non-portable one retailing at Rs 5,500, and the portable one at Rs 6,000.

How Jio AirFiber works

The video shows that both models of the AirFiber comes with Wi-Fi routers where one will be the antenna and the other will work as the extender. You will have to place one router somewhere on top like the roof of your house, and the other will be inside through which you’ll get internet connectivity.

Once setting up the hardware is complete, you will have to complete the installation process by connecting to the network. First you will need to insert the Jio 5G SIM in the AirFiber and then download the Jio Home app on your phone. Once you’ve downloaded it, you will have to connect to the Jio Fiber router and enter the Wi-Fi password that’s located on the bottom of the router.

In addition to wireless connectivity, the Jio AirFiber will also have a USB port, a LAN and a WAN port. The Jio set top box can also be plugged into the AirFiber router for your TV. This installation process is for the standard AirFiber router and not the portable one. There is no word on how exactly the portable AirFiber will work, and if the company even plans of launching one.

With what seems to be hard evidence of the Jio AirFiber the launch of this service might actually happen very soon. The company plans on expanding Jio Fiber along with AirFiber services to 100 million houses in the next two to three years.
