The LG V40 ThinQ is the world’s first smartphone with five cameras

After a series of leaks and rumours, LG has gone ahead and announced the V40 ThinQ smartphone at an event in New York. The flagship offering from the Chaebol comes as a direct successor to the LG V35 ThinQ, which was unveiled back in May. Apart from packing the high-end features, the biggest USP of the V40 ThinQ is its camera setup. The handset flaunts three shooters on the rear and two, up front. 

Starting with the imaging, the LG V40 ThinQ comes with AI-powered cameras. At the back, the handset sports a 12-megapixel f/1.5 snapper, paired with a 16-megapixel 107-degree super wide-angle sensor with f/1.9 aperture and an 8-megapixel f/2.4 telephoto lens. Along with the ability to use these sensors individually, the phone also comes with a Triple Shot feature, which stitches the images taken from each of the lenses into a short video clip. While on the front, the phone gets a standard 8MP shooter with f/1.9 aperture and a 5-megapixel f/2.2 wide-angle camera to get bokeh shots. The V40's camera app is bundled with tons of features like panorama, time-lapse, AR Emoji, and the Cine shot that lets you take clips with motion in a certain part only.

The V40 ThinQ comes with a 6.4-inch OLED display with a notch atop and a QHD+ resolution (3,120 x 1,440 pixels) and an aspect ratio of 19.5:9. The device is powered by top-of-the-line Qualcomm's Snapdragon 845 chipset, paired with 6GB RAM and either 64GB or 128GB storage onboard. For security, the handset sports a rear-mounted fingerprint sensor and a "stereo configuration" that captures a 3D map of the user for secure login. 

Out of the box, the phone boots Android 8.1 Oreo with LG's custom skin garnished on top. A 3,300mAh battery with fast and wireless charging feature fuels the entire package. Other features include a dedicated Google Assistant key, a 3.5mm audio socket, and IP68 and MIL-STD 810G certification. 

LG is offering the V40 ThinQ in four hues of black, gray, blue and red. The brand has priced the smartphone at $900 (~Rs 73,000) in the US. The handset will go for sale starting October 18th. Unfortunately, there isn't any confirmation if and when the device will be launched in India.
