Nokia X71 with 48MP camera and wide-angle lens to launch in Taiwan on April 2nd

Nokia was expected to introduce a successor to the Nokia 8.1 at MWC 2019. However, the smartphone maker released the high-end Nokia 9 PureView alongside Nokia 4.2 and a couple of other budget devices. Now, it seems like the Finnish smartphone company will finally unveil the previously expected premium mid-ranger on April 2 in Taiwan. The company has sent out press releases for the launch of the Nokia X71 and has mentioned a couple of key features of the device. From the early looks of it, it is quite possible that the Nokia X71 is the successor to the Nokia 8.1.

As can be seen in the press release, the Nokia X71 features a 48MP primary camera sensor but unfortunately, its exact making is not known. Also, there's mention of a 120-degree wide-angle lens, which will probably be the secondary sensor. The phone is expected to feature a triple camera setup, with the third sensor possibly being a depth or telephoto lens. The handset is set to be Nokia's first phone with a 48MP sensor as well as the first to feature a triple camera setup. If we go by earlier leaks, the X71 could also be Nokia's first punch-hole selfie camera smartphone that first leaked last year as the Nokia 8.1 Plus. We exclusively reported CAD renders of the handset but the mid-ranger has still not got an official reveal yet.

Speculation suggests that the Nokia X71 could debut in global markets as the Nokia 8.1 Plus. Based on previously leaked info, the Nokia 8.1 Plus may feature a 6.22-inch Full-HD+ display. It could also feature a better processor than the Snapdragon 710, which features on the Nokia 8.1. The handset will also most likely ship with Android Pie. As of now, this is all we can say about the upcoming phone. The April 2 launch event in Taiwan will also see the introduction of the Nokia 9 PureView in the country.
