Nothing seems to be working on its very first smartphone, based on a cryptic tweet by CEO Carl Pei. The brand launched its first product, Nothing Ear (1) true wireless earbuds (review), in December 2020. Carl Pei announced that the brand has partnered with Qualcomm and hinted to excited fans that a Nothing smartphone could be in the works. Since then, there has not been a word about the Nothing smartphone powered by Qualcomm. This week, Carl Pei teased “Back on Android” on his Twitter handle, followed by “Android 12 is nice” hinting towards a Nothing smartphone that might be announced soon.

Nothing fans were all over the tweet with questions regarding the upcoming smartphone. Android and Qualcomm’s official Twitter handle also joined the conversion with hilarious replies. In the response, Android says, “We’ve got a lot to catch up on Carl.” This is followed by Qualcomm sharing an image of three hands joining. All of these imply that a Nothing smartphone would be announced shortly.
