As a new feature, fintech platform PhonePe has added the iconic voice of Amitabh Bachchan to its SmartSpeakers to validate customer payments. Now, once a customer completes a UPI payment to a merchant, the latter can get a confirmation in the actor’s iconic voice provided they select that setting.
The celebrity voice feature is presently offered in Hindi and English languages, and they intend to introduce it in other languages too in the future.
Here’s how merchants can activate this new feature:
- Launch the PhonePe for Business App.
- Navigate to the SmartSpeaker section on the home screen.
- Under ‘My SmartSpeaker,’ select ‘SmartSpeaker Voice.’
- Choose Amitabh Bachchan’s voice in your preferred language.
- Click on ‘Confirm’ to activate the voice.
- The device will restart and update to Amitabh Bachchan’s voice within a few hours.
According to the company, having Amitabh Bachchan’s iconic voice will make the payment experience more engaging and interactive for merchants and customers.
The PhonePe SmartSpeaker was introduced over a year ago. Since that time, merchant partners have utilised four million devices in 19,000 postal codes, covering over 90 percent of the country, according to the company.
The company notes states that PhonePe SmartSpeakers have unique features such as easy to carry, clear audio even in noisy places, and a small design. It offers voice payment alerts in various Indian languages, has a battery that lasts up to 4 days and features a clear LED indicator to show battery status, provides audio notifications for low battery. It includes a dedicated button for replaying the last transaction.
In other news, Paytm launched a new payments’ device called the Card Soundbox for one-touch UPI and card payments under Rs 5,000. The device integrates card payments with an audio confirmation.
