Redmi Note 7 series sales cross 10 million units globally

The Redmi Note 7 series that was launched in China in January this year has amassed sales of 10 million units worldwide. Achieving the feat in a span of just 129 days, the Redmi Note 7 series has clearly, and to nobody's surprise, taken the budget segment by storm. In India, the series consists of three models, though only two of them feature a 48MP rear camera. Notably, the base model in the series, simply called Redmi Note 7, will be phased out as Xiaomi runs out of stock in the country. That will leave the buyers with two models to choose from.

Xiaomi co-founder Lei Jun made the announcement about the Redmi Note 7 10 million-sales mark on Weibo in China. Accompanying the post were photos of the executive cutting a cake to celebrate the occasion. It should be recalled that Xiaomi had spun off Redmi as a separate brand in China and that it operates as an independent entity in the Indian market. Jun said the milestone is a victory and a testament of "holding Xiaomi values, such as high quality and value for your money."

The three smartphones available worldwide in the series are named Redmi Note 7, Redmi Note 7S, and Redmi Note 7 Pro. To recall, the Redmi Note 7S is the latest edition added to the lineup. Xiaomi unveiled the handset in India earlier this month, and it's the same model as the Redmi Note 7 that was launched in China back in January. The handset boasts of 48-megapixel Samsung sensor paired with a 5-megapixel sensor on the rear, a dot notch display, and Qualcomm's Snapdragon 660 mobile platform.

The Redmi Note 7 Indian version, meanwhile, has been discontinued. The handset is backed by the same specs as the Note 7S, except the primary camera where it features 12-megapixel + 5-megapixel setup. The Redmi Note 7 Pro is the most premium smartphone in the lineup with Snapdragon 675 SoC ticking at its core and a slightly better 48-megapixel Sony IMX 586 main sensor.

In related news, Xiaomi announced its much-awaited flagships the Redmi K20 and K20 Pro a few days back in China. The handsets come with pop-up selfie camera design, edge-to-edge display, and up to triple rear cameras. While the K20 rocks Snapdragon 710 SoC, the Redmi K20 Pro employs the mighty Snapdragon 855 mobile platform. Both the phones are likely to launch in India soon -- the exact timeline is not known at the moment though.
