Bixby to get ChatGPT-like AI features soon
- According to CNBC, a top executive from Samsung Electronics said to the publication that the company’s voice-assistant Bixby would get ChatGPT-like chatbot features.
- This capability will be powered by the brand’s Generative AI.
- To recall, Bixby debuted in 2017 on the Galaxy S8 series and was soon expanded to wearable and smart home appliances as well.
- However, Bixby just couldn’t match the smarts of Google’s Assistant, Amazon’s Alexa, or even Apple’s Siri.
- Now it looks like Samsung wants to improve its abilities with the help of Generative AI and LLM.
- Google already released Gemini, the LLM-powered AI chatbot to Pixel and Galaxy phones in some markets.
- Samsung launched its own AI model called Samsung Gauss and some of the features in Galaxy AI are the brains behind this.
- There are chances this could use the same model to power Bixby in the future.
“With the emergence of generative AI and LLM (large language model) technology, I believe that we have to redefine the role of the Bixby so that Bixby could be equipped with Generative AI and become smarter in the future,” said Won-joon Choi, Executive Vice President of Samsung MX.
Samsung clarified that Galaxy AI and Bixby will continue to co-exist and that Bixby and SmartThings will get AI-powered improvements soon. Choi hasn’t revealed a timeline as to when Bixby will get Generative-AI smarts but mentioned Samsung is “working so hard” to deliver them.
