Table of Contents

Our notion of the ideal smartphone display size has evolved over the past few years. The conservative 3.5-inch screens of yore have given way to behemoth 6-inchers, and it’s not unusual to see 7-inch giants dwarfing people’s faces either. Most brands seem to have latched on to the phablet trend, so there are plenty of options to go around. And for those of you who like ‘em big, but want to pay small, we’ve got you covered, too. Here’s our list of the top five phablets priced under Rs 15,000.

Intex Aqua i15 (Rs 12,125)

The Intex Aqua i15, which was listed on the company’s website in January this year, is more tablet and less smartphone. It sports a huge 6-inch IPS display, which sadly skips HD for a staid resolution of 540 x 960 pixels. The giant phablet is powered by a quad-core MediaTek processor clocked at 1.3GHz, accompanied by a miserly 512MB RAM. However, you get a decent 8MP snapper at the back, and a 2MP shooter in the front, too. Internal storage is 4GB, expandable up to 32GB with a microSD card. The Aqua i15 runs Android 4.2.2 Jelly Bean, with Intex Zone and Intex Cloud preloaded. The dual-SIM device supports 3G, Wi-Fi and Bluetooth, and feeds off a 2,400mAh battery.

Micromax Canvas Doodle 2 (Rs 12,794)

The Micromax Canvas Doodle 2 is a great option for those looking for a Samsung Galaxy Note-type device at an affordable price. It features a 5.7-inch HD IPS display, and comes with a stylus, like its predecessor. Flaunting a full aluminium body, the phone has a few tricks up its sleeve, such Smart Pause, Flip to Silence and Blow/Shake to Unlock. The Canvas Doodle 2 runs Android 4.2 Jelly Bean with FOTA (firmware over the air) support. It features a 12MP rear camera with LED flash, along with a 5MP front camera. There’s 16GB of internal memory, which is unfortunately non-expandable. The phone is powered by a 1.2GHz quad-core MediaTek processor, paired with 1GB RAM. The dual-SIM device supports 3G, Wi-Fi and Bluetooth. There’s a 2,600mAh battery that provides up to 8 hours of talk time.
