The Intex Aqua i15, which was listed on the company’s website in January this year, is more tablet and less smartphone. It sports a huge 6-inch IPS display, which sadly skips HD for a staid resolution of 540 x 960 pixels. The giant phablet is powered by a quad-core MediaTek processor clocked at 1.3GHz, accompanied by a miserly 512MB RAM. However, you get a decent 8MP snapper at the back, and a 2MP shooter in the front, too. Internal storage is 4GB, expandable up to 32GB with a microSD card. The Micromax Canvas Doodle 2 is a great option for those looking for a Samsung Galaxy Note-type device at an affordable price. It features a 5.7-inch HD IPS display, and comes with a stylus, like its predecessor. Flaunting a full aluminium body, the phone has a few tricks up its sleeve, such Smart Pause, Flip to Silence and Blow/Shake to Unlock. The Canvas Doodle 2 runs Android 4.2 Jelly Bean with FOTA (firmware over the air) support. It features a 12MP rear camera with LED flash, along with a 5MP front camera. There’s 8GB of internal storage, expandable up to an additional 32GB with a microSD card. The Q2000 sports a 13MP rear camera with autofocus, BSI 2 sensor and LED flash, and is accompanied by a 2MP front-facing camera. The battery under the hood has a 2,600mAh capacity, and promises up to 17 hours of talk time.

Launched last year, the Karbonn Titanium S9 is a value-for-money phablet with plenty of storage. It features a 5.5-inch IPS display with 720p resolution. Ticking under the hood is a 1.2GHz quad-core processor, accompanied by 1GB of RAM. Unlike most budget phablets, Karbonn hasn’t skimped on the internal storage, and the Titanium S9 gets a healthy 16GB, plus a microSD card slot for expansion, should you need it. There’s a 13MP rear camera with LED flash, and a 5MP front shooter. The phone runs Android 4.2 Jelly Bean, and offers dual-SIM connectivity, 3G, Bluetooth and Wi-Fi. There’s a 2,600mAh battery fuelling the device.

Lenovo A850 (Rs 10,906)

Launched with three other A-series budget smartphones, Lenovo’s phablet offering is the most affordable in our lineup, but comes with a few compromises. It offers a 5.5-inch IPS display, but gets an average qHD resolution of 540 x 960 pixels. The A850 is powered by a quad-core MediaTek processor clocked at 1.3GHz, along with 1GB of RAM. The A850 disappoints on the photography front, offering a 5MP primary camera with LED flash, and a meagre VGA front camera. Internal memory is just 4GB, but can be expanded by a microSD card.
