WhatsApp has been testing a redesign for its Android app. The new WhatsApp redesign adds chat filters, and a new font for the app logo as well. WhatsApp is also revamping the UI with a completely white background. The redesign is currently in testing, and it looks like WhatsApp has made some changes to it.
WhatsApp chat filters
- In the first redesign, WhatsApp added filters on top of chats to help segregate the different types of messages you get on the app. These filters are for all your chats, unread messages, personal chats, and business chats.
- WhatsApp has made some changes to this by replacing personal with contacts. Now only chats from your contacts will appear under this filter.
- The business chat filter has also been replaced by groups. So now you can easily find all your group chats in one place.
- According to WABetaInfo, a filter for group chats has been a highly requested feature by users.
- Judging by this update, it looks like WhatsApp is still refining the redesign by making some changes. So only when the UI redesign is ready, WhatsApp will roll it out for all users.
Other than these changes, rest of the UI stays the same. At the bottom, you can still access chats, status, communities and calls. Then you have the camera icon, search button, and settings icon on top of the app. The new WhatsApp features are currently in beta but not available to public beta testers yet. It is expected to roll out soon, though.
As for the other changes in the redesign, WhatsApp had removed the green background on top for a completely white one. It also changed the font of the WhatsApp logo from the current one, and the colour to green. These changes are however, not visible in the latest update.
