Xiaomi Mi A2 January 2019 Android Security Patch causing boot loops for some users

Xiaomi answered the prayers of a lot of stock Android fans when it launched its first Android One smartphone called Mi A1 (review). The brand then followed it with the Mi A2 (review), which brought even better internals and cameras with the same vanilla Android experience. However, the latest software update for the Mi A2 seems to have caused grief for the users. 

Apparently, the brand started rolling out the January 2019 Security patch update to the Mi A2 recently. Soon after, several users have reported on different forums about a grave issue that's plaguing the smartphone following the update. Notably, the handset goes into a boot loop after updating the software. For the uninitiated, the phone needs to be restarted once the update is complete, and it is at this stage that users are getting stuck at the screen with the Android One logo. According to the report, Xiaomi's Mi A2 features seamless update technique, where the software is updated in an inactive slot. This is the step where the bug is affecting and the inactive slot is not being updated completely, it seems. As of now, there is not workaround or solution for this except for not updating the smartphone to the January 2019 patch.

To recap, the Xiaomi Mi A2 comes with a 5.99-inch IPS display with full HD+ resolution and an aspect ratio of 18:9. In the performance department, the smartphone gets Qualcomm's Snapdragon 660 SoC paired with up to 6GB RAM and 128GB onboard storage. The device comes with a dual 12-megapixel + 20-megapixel sensors on the rear with LED flash and 20MP shooter on the front. The handset boots Android 8.1 Oreo out of the box and is powered by a 3,000mAh battery. 

The Mi A2 can be picked for Rs 13,999 for the base variant with 4GB RAM and 64GB storage and 15,999 for the 6GB RAM + 128GB storage model. The phone can be picked from authorised offline distributors, Mi.com, Amazon.in, and Mi Home stores.
