It looks like Xiaomi is working on the successor of its first-ever foldable phone Mi MIX Fold, which was launched last year in March. Dubbed the Xiaomi Mi MIX Fold 2, the phone will reportedly pack some top of the line hardware. Key specifications of the phone have been tipped, courtesy of noted tipster Digital Chat Station. The foldable is said to improve the crease on the internal screen and sport a book-style folding design, similar to the original MIX Fold. There are chances that the Mi MIX Fold 2 will be powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen1 Plus chipset. This suggests that the handset will launch in the second half of the year as the chipset is expected to debut in June 2022.

According to the tipster Digital Chat Station, the Mi MIX Fold 2 will sport a 6.5-inch and 8-inch display with a 120Hz refresh rate and DC dimming for eye protection. The cover screen will have a 60Hz refresh rate. Interestingly, the internal display is said to get an LTPO technology and the “crease will be slightly better” than the predecessor. Speculations are rife it will have a thinner crease compared to Mi MIX Fold.
The chipset will be powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen1 Plus chipset, which will have a model number SM8475 and will be based on TSMC’s 4nm manufacturing platform. Earlier leaks have revealed the Mi MIX Fold 2 would come with a 5000mAh battery, 2K AMOLED panel, and a 108MP primary rear camera. The foldable will get stylus support for input.
Xiaomi Mi MIX vs MIX Fold 2
Xiaomi Mi MIX also has a similar display configuration. It has a 6.52-inch outer screen and an 8.01-inch OLED display on the inside with QHD+ resolution. The main upgrade will be to the chipset. It will be upgraded from Snapdragon 888 to Snapdragon 8 Gen1 Plus chipset. The inner screen will get a 120Hz refresh rate, up from the standard 60Hz panel.
The primary 108MP camera will be retained on the Fold 2 as well. The MIX Fold had a 5020mAh battery, while the Fold 2 is said to get a 5,000mAh unit. We should have more details about the MIX Fold 2 going forward.
Mi MIX Fold 2 launch timeline
As for the launch timeline, the Mi MIX Fold 2 is likely to debut around the middle of this year. Since the Mi MIX Fold never made it to India, we’re not really sure whether the company will bring its successor to the country.
