“The gaming-centric ROG Phone 2 is the first smartphone in India with Snapdragon 855 Plus SoC”
The ASUS ROG Phone 2 (first impressions) smartphone has officially been launched in India. It’s the next-gen gaming-focussed smartphone from ASUS, originally introduced back in July. The ROG Phone 2 is the world’s first smartphone with Snapdragon 855 Plus SoC ticking at its core. The mobile platform is overclocked and offers 15 percent faster graphics performance than the regular Snapdragon 855. The handset also features a 6.59-inch AMOLED display with 120Hz refresh rate and 240Hz touch sampling. Other highlights include a beefy battery, Game Cooling II, 48MP dual rear cameras, dual vibration motors, and an impressive RAM + storage options. The ROG Phone 2 offers support for accessories such as a cooling fan, controller pad, dual-screen accessory, Nintendo Switch Joy-Con like controllers, and a Switch-like docking station, which lets you connect the handset to your TV set.
ASUS ROG Phone 2 price in India
ASUS has priced the ROG Phone 2 in India at Rs 37,999 for the 8GB RAM + 128GB storage variant; it will come with 18W charger and AeroCase bundled in the box. The handset goes on sale in the country via Flipkart as part of the Big Billion Days sale. The phone’s 12GB RAM + 512GB storage variant, meanwhile, costs Rs 59,999 but there is no release date for this variant yet. Buyers will get 30W ROG Charger, AeroActive Cooler, and AeroCase with this variant.
As mentioned above, the ROG Phone 2 comes with a lot of accessories. The ROG 30W Charger, AeroActive Cooler II, Professional Dock, and Light Armoured Case are respectively priced at Rs 1,999, Rs 3,999, Rs 5,499, and Rs 2,999, respectively. The TwinView Dock II costs Rs 19,999, the Mobile Desktop Dock is priced at Rs 12,999, and the ROG Kunai GamePad is available for Rs 9,999.
ASUS ROG Phone 2 specifications
Coming to the specifications, the ASUS ROG Phone 2 runs Android 9.0 Pie with a custom ROG UI skin running on top. The gaming-centric smartphone flaunts a 6.59-inch AMOLED display that bears Full-HD+ resolution, an ultra-smooth frame rate of 120Hz, HDR 10-compatibility, and in-display fingerprint scanner. The display has Corning Gorilla Glass 6 layer and an in-display fingerprint scanner for authentication. The phone is powered by 2.89GHz octa-core Snapdragon 855 Plus SoC, which is accompanied by 8GB RAM + 128GB storage variant and 12GB RAM + 512GB UFS 3.0 storage options.
In the imaging department, the ASUS ROG Phone 2 houses dual cameras at the back. The setup consists of 48-megapixel primary snapper and a 13-megapixel secondary shooter for depth-sensing. The front camera of the phone gets a 24-megapixel shooter for selfies and video calling. The handset features dual front-facing 5-magnet speakers with dual smart amplifier, Hi-Res audio, DTS, and quad mics with noise-cancellation. Connectivity features include 4G LTE, dual-band Wi-Fi, Bluetooth 5.0, and two USB Type-C ports. A whopping 6,000mAh battery with 30W fast charging rounds up the specs sheet of ROG Phone 2.
ASUS also introduced a slew of accessories with the ROG Phone II. These include Turbo Fan cooler to dispense the heat from the system at a faster rate, Kunai – a hand-held controller to give you a console-like experience, and TwinView 2 dock for dual-screen experience with ASUS ROG Phone 2. The TwinView has a 120 Hz refresh rate, a built-in 5,000 mAh external battery to bring the total combined battery to 11,000 mAh, and support for Kunai console. There is also ASUS Lightning armour case with NFC support and RGB customisation support for the handset, as well as ROG Mobile Desktop Dock and ROG Professional Dock with HDMI, USB Type-C, Ehternet, and USB ports for connectivity.
