According to DXOMARK's camera tests, the Pixel 8 Pro ranks fourth globally, and even in the ultra-premium category. The top spot is held by the Huawei P60 Pro followed by the iPhone 15 Pro Max and the iPhone 15 Pro. This isn't to say that the Pixel 8 Pro doesn't have good cameras; it just isn't the best, according to DXOMARK's results.
The Pixel 8 Pro did turn out to be the best for daylight photography and videography. It also achieved a top score in the wide category, and ultra-wide photos had high levels of image quality even in low light. The Pixel 8 Pro switches to ultra-wide for close-up subjects, which in turn delivers "excellent macro images." Google used a new 48MP ultra-wide angle lens on the Pixel 8 Pro, and it's said to be the most capable ultra-wide that DXO has tested so far.
In the 'Friends & Family' use case, the Pixel 8 Pro ranked third among its competitors. Its highlights were "great skin tone accuracy, zero shutter lag and a great bokeh mode." The smartphone delivers nice and very natural-looking complexions for all skin tones.
Overall, the Pixel 8 Pro produces images with pleasant colours as it achieves a neutral white balance and accurate colour rendering under all light conditions. While it does get accurate target exposure there are some occasional slight underexposure of the subjects.
In low-light photography, the Pixel 8 Pro captures images with "accurate exposure and natural rendering of the scene." While it does manage noise well, some shots did result in higher loss of fine detail.
You can definitely count on the Pixel 8 Pro for selfies since it ranked second just behind the iPhone 15 Pro Max. DXOMARK says the phone delivers an "excellent performance, particularly in color rendering." Close-up and long distance shots result in better texture/noise trade-off thanks to the new autofocus.
