Huawei P30 and P30 Pro are now receiving a new update which brings the much-awaited DC Dimming feature and improvements to the in-display fingerprint sensor. Prior to the update, the flagships' 'pulse width modulation' turns the pixels on and off to lower the brightness, thus producing flicker, which isn't a comfortable viewing experience. DC-dimming, on the other, doesn't flicker as it automatically regulates the current sent to each pixel on display, thus lowering the brightness while keeping the pixels alive all the time. Most importantly, this also reduces eye strain.
Moreover, the update is around 400MB in size and is currently rolling out in China, but it should reach other markets as well in the next couple of weeks. According to the changelog, DC dimming mode can be enabled from system settings. The update also optimises the in-display fingerprint sensor further. Huawei back in April had rolled out an update that brought camera enhancements, audio-video synchronisation, display improvements and latest Google security patch.
To recall, the Huawei P30 and P30 Pro are powered by the in-house HiSilicon 7nm Kirin 980 chipset and has an in-display fingerprint sensor. While the former sports a 6.1-inch display, the latter gets a relative larger 6.47-inch full-HD+ OLED HDR Display with DCI-P3 colour gamut and Huawei's Acoustic technology that vibrates the screen to produce sound. The P30 Pro comes with a quad-camera setup, consisting of a 40-megapixel SuperSpectrum sensor (f/1.6) primary sensor, a 20MP (f/2.2) ultra-wide-angle secondary lens, an 8-megapixel telephoto lens with 5x zoom, and a fourth Time-of-Flight (ToF) lens for depth-of-field effect. The front camera gets a 32MP sensor.
