OnePlus 12 launched in India: 5 new features and upgrades you should know about

The OnePlus 12 series is set to launch in India today and includes the flagship OnePlus 12 and OnePlus 12R. The OnePlus 12 series brings with it some new upgrades and improvements over the OnePlus 11 series, and in this article, we will explore what the new flagship OnePlus 12 offers its users.

OnePlus 12 performance upgrades

Qualcomm’s latest Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 SoC powers the OnePlus 12, along with up to 16GB of LPDDR5X RAM and 512GB of UFS 4.0 storage. OnePlus claims that its proprietary engine, the Trinity Engine, is designed to deliver a consistent, fast, and smooth experience in heavy-duty tasking, multi-tasking, and long-term usage scenarios. It utilises a set of six technologies, which include CPU Vitalization, RAM Vitalization, ROM Vitalization, HyperBoost, HyperRendering, and HyperTouch. Here’s a breakdown of what the technologies essentially do in terms of performance:

  • CPU Vitalization basically ensures that the chipset performance remains top-notch while efficiently managing the battery drain.
  • RAM Vitalization optimises background app performance and resource allocation to allow background apps to function longer without compromising on performance output.
  • ROM Vitalization is designed to reduce performance drops due to prolonged use and enhance the phone’s lifespan with an efficient compression algorithm, storage acceleration, and more.
  • HyperBoost uses AI to boost framerates while gaming.
  • HyperRendering is designed to reduce latency and power consumption while gaming.
  • HyperTouch is designed to minimise mis-touches and improve overall touch accuracy on the OnePlus 12.

Dual Cryo-velocity VC Cooling System

The OnePlus 12 comes with a new cooling system to ensure that the smartphone efficiently dissipates heat during intensive tasks such as gaming, editing, 4K videography, and more. The new cooling system comes with a “micron-level 3D capillary dissipation structure” and two VC structures placed strategically, one near heat-generating components such as the chipset, which absorbs heat and redirects it to the bigger VC structure, which efficiently dissipates heat. OnePlus claims that the device registered lower max temperatures during gaming tests compared to its competition, but we will know more about its full capabilities during our review.

Enhanced Display

The OnePlus 12 features a 6.8-inch 2K resolution Super Fluid OLED display. The panel has a refresh rate of up to 120Hz and comes with a diamond-pixel layout and single-pixel calibration technology, which allows the panel to boast the brightest display panel in a smartphone, at 4,500nits. The panel supports LTPO+ technology, which allows it have an adaptive refresh rate from 1Hz all the way up to 120Hz. The display also supports Pro XDR and Dolby Vision, which allow for an immersive visual experience. The Corning Gorilla Glass Victus 2 protects the display from damage, and the IP65 rating ensures that the device is water and dust-resistant.

New Cameras

The OnePlus 12 features an impressive rear camera setup. It comes with a 50MP Sony LYT 808 f/1.6 aperture wide-angle camera with OIS and AF support, a 64MP OV64B 3x periscope camera, and a 48MP ultra-wide camera with 114-degree FOV. The latest HDR algorithm supports the camera system and is designed to produce more natural-looking images with improved character recognition and optimised exposure.

The camera system can shoot 4K videos, paired with Dolby Vision support, which claims to produce vivid imagery with greater depth, richer details, and sharper contrast. Keep an eye out for our review of the OnePlus 12 for a comprehensive camera test to measure its real-life performance.

Battery and Charging

A 5,400mAh battery powers the OnePlus 12, the largest battery capacity in a flagship smartphone. The device also supports 100W of SUPERVOOC charging and 50W of AIRVOOC wireless charging to quickly top up the battery. According to OnePlus, the smartphone can reach a full 100% charge in under 30 minutes with the 100W SUPERVOOC charger.
