OnePlus 12R’s UFS 3.1 storage: How different is it from UFS 4.0?

  • All OnePlus 12R variants have UFS 3.1 storage only. So, it comes in 128GB and 256GB storage with UFS 3.1 standard and there is no variant with UFS 4.0 version.
  • UFS 4.0 is the latest Universal Flash Storage standard and compared to the UFS 3.1 standard, it is said to have 2x the bandwidth, and at least 2x sequential read and write speeds while consuming 46% lower power.

So, the latter is more energy efficient, takes up less space, and is faster. You may see this speed while launching apps and saving files on the device storage

What the OnePlus’s press statement says

  • OnePlus, however, hasn’t mentioned these differences in its media release. Instead, it says UFS 3.1 is the same storage type found on the OnePlus 11 series and that it’s fully rated by the German technical inspection body TÜV SÜD. It claims the UFS 3.1 storage on the 12R should run fine for 4 years.
  • It also highlights that the Trinity Engine (for optimum performance of CPU, RAM and ROM) was tested on UFS 3.1 storage only.
  • Finally, the company apologises for the error and encourages people who have pre-ordered or purchased the phone to get in touch with customer support for further clarification.
