"OPPO's new R series smartphones feature iPhone X-like notches above the screen"
OPPO has unveiled its latest R series smartphones called the R15 and R15 Dream Mirror Edition in its home market, i.e. China. The company's latest smartphones flaunt an iPhone X-like notch above the screen and taller-than-usual aspect ratio of 19:9. The phones sport an impressive screen-to-body ratio of 90 percent. While the previous R series devices offered metal designs, the new R series offerings come with glass back panels.
The OPPO R15 features a 6.28-inch full HD+ OLED display, and is powered by a 12nm octa-core MediaTek Helio P60 processor. The phone comes with 6GB of RAM and 128GB of storage, which can be further increased by up to 256GB by inserting a microSD card. The device sports a 16MP primary snapper with f/1.7 aperture and EIS at the rear, aided by a secondary 5MP shooter with f/2.2 aperture. For selfies, the device features a 20-megapixel front snapper with f/2.0 aperture.
The OPPO R15 comes with a rear-mounted fingerprint sensor. Software-wise, it boots Android 8.1 Oreo-based ColorOS 5.0. In terms of connectivity, the handset offers hybrid dual-SIM slots, 4G LTE, VoLTE (voice over LTE), dual-band Wi-Fi, Bluetooth 4.2, USB Type-C, and GPS with GLONASS. A 3,450mAh battery with VOOC Flash Charging support keeps the handset running. The company claims that the smartphone can deliver two hours of talk time with just five minutes of charging.
As for the OPPO R15 Dream Mirror Edition, the phone offers similar features as the standard R15, except for a few changes. The device is powered by an octa-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 660 processor. At the rear, the handset gets a 16MP primary snapper and a 20MP secondary shooter. Both the cameras sport apertures of f/1.7. The phone is fuelled by a slightly smaller 3,400mAh battery.
Coming to the pricing, the OPPO R15 has been priced at RMB 2,999 (~Rs 30,800), and comes in Snow White, Hot Red, and Star Purple hues. The OPPO R15 Dream Mirror Edition will retail for RMB 3,299 (~Rs 33,900). There's also a more premium variant of the Dream Mirror Edition that features a ceramic back, which will be available for RMB 3,499 (~Rs 35,900). The phone will go on sale in China starting April 1st.
