“Redmi Note 7 Pro camera and processor will be key areas of upgrade compared to the Redmi Note 7”
The Redmi Note 7 (review) is set to go official in India next week on February 28th and a new official post from Redmi has just confirmed that the Redmi Note 7 Pro (which is unannounced) will also be introduced in China next week. The Redmi Note 7 Pro has been teased on social media for the past few weeks and was expected to go official after the launch of the flagship Mi 9. The Pro variant has also received 3C certification revealing some information about the charging aspect of the smartphone, while a number of other rumoured specifications have been making the rounds since some time.
In a post on Weibo, Redmi head Lu Weibing told fans “Redmi Note 7 Pro, see you next week.” While this post confirms the handset will be launched next week, we still don’t have an official date yet. It’s already known that the Redmi Note 7 Pro will rock a more powerful 48MP Sony IMX 586 sensor. Today’s post teased the same feature again as it will be a key upgrade over its smaller sibling – the Redmi Note 7.
The other key upgrade will probably be the processor that is expected to be a Snapdragon 675 SoC. This could make the Redmi Note 7 Pro one of the very few handsets with the new chipset. In India, the Vivo V15 Pro boasts the same 11nm LPP chip clocked at 2.0GHz and an Adreno 612 GPU which is a great mid-range performer, as far as initial impressions are concerned. It is also believed that the handset could have 18W fast-charging support out-of-the-box which would be a very nice addition to have if it is accompanied by a fast charger.
Apart from these upgrades, there will be the obvious difference in RAM and storage as the Pro variant typically has a couple of high-end RAM and storage models. Reports hint a 6GB +128GB model which is a perfectly realistic proposition. There’s still no exact date that we can point to for the Redmi Note 7 Pro launch. However, Xiaomi could surprise all with a launch in India and China back to back. Fingers crossed for that!
