Top tech news this week: Nothing Phone (2a) reveal, OnePlus 12R Genshin Impact Edition and more

This week was all about the Mobile World Congress 2024 that took place in Barcelona, Spain. Samsung and Motorola showed off their bendable phones, while Nothing officially revealed its upcoming phone, the Nothing Phone (2a). OnePlus 12R Genshin Impact Edition also made its debut in India and other markets.

Here, Vivo and IQOO announced the India launch dates of its upcoming phones, the Vivo V30 series and iQOO Z9. Let’s take a look at each tech news of the week.  

Nothing Phone (2a) has Glyph lights, teaser video reveals

Ahead of the global and India launch on March 5th, Nothing showed off the design of its upcoming phone, Nothing Phone (2a). It’s different than the previous Nothing phones with a smaller and redesigned Glyph Interface. The LED lights are lesser, and the rear cameras are moved to the centre. The bottom half resembles the Nothing Phone (2a) but without the LED lights.

OnePlus 12R Genshin Impact Edition comes to India

OnePlus 12R Genshin Impact Edition made its official debut in India and other markets earlier this week. It’s based on the Genshin Impact character Keqing, and comes in an Electro Violet colour. The phone’s OS has also been customised along with system optimisations for Genshin Impact. You also get a collectible box with the phone that contains Genshin Impact merchandise and accessories. OnePlus 12R Genshin Impact Edition is priced at Rs 49,999 in India.

Motorola Bendable

Motorola and Samsung’s bendable phones at MWC 2024

Samsung and Motorola showed off some futuristic bendable phones at the Mobile World Congress 2024. Samsung introduced a bar-style phone that can bend and be worn on the wrist. The company is calling this ‘Cling Band’. Motorola’s bendable phone has an Adaptive Display on the phone can apparently bend into a variety of forms to fit different user needs. One among them is the ability to wrap around the wrist. Both phones are concept devices for now but we should see them commercially launch in the coming years.

Vivo V30 and V30 Pro coming to India on March 7th

The Vivo V30 series will launch in India on March 7th, and it will be available via Flipkart and Vivo’s online store. Both the Vivo V30 and V30 Pro have been made official in other markets. The two phones come with 120Hz AMOLED displays, 50MP cameras, 80W fast charging and Android 14. The Vivo V40 series is also tipped to start around Rs 40,000 in India.

iQOO Z9 5G launching in India on March 12th

iQOO Z9 is also launching in India on March 12th. This is going to be a mid-range phone, and it will come with the MediaTek Dimensity 7200 processor. iQOO Z9 is also confirmed to feature a 120Hz AMOLED display with 1800 nits of peak brightness, and a 300Hz touch sampling rate. The smartphone packs a 5,000mAh battery, and it will come in two colour options of Brushed Green and Graphene Blue.
