According to a report by Navbharat Times, the victim was a 16-year-old boy from Baduan. The incident occurred when he was talking on the phone while it was still charging. During this time the boy suffered an electric shock and fell on the floor. His parents rushed him to the hospital but the doctors pronounced him dead on arrival.

Reason for smartphone explosion not revealed

The report doesn’t specify which brand’s smartphone it was other than saying that it was a “big brand”; but, the report does state that he had bought an old phone and a smartwatch for Rs 20,000. Now whether there was some swelled up battery or issue with the phone’s hardware is unknown. However, seeing how the boy died due to an electric shock, it could be because of a short circuit. Additionally, since the phone was an old one, there could have been some issues with it that triggered the explosion.

Whatever the reason, it’s safe to say that we should be careful with using our smartphones when they’re plugged into a power cord. Smartphones tend to overheat with prolonged use, and too much heat exposure can also be dangerous.

Most companies add warnings to phones when overheating is detected, and iPhones even take time to cool down if the temperature is above permissible limits. Hence, it’s advisable to be aware and careful of such situations.
