WhatsApp now lets you send hear-once voice messages, feature available in beta

Highlights
  • WhatsApp’s new feature is available to select beta testers on Android and iOS.
  • It’s essentially the ‘View Once’ mode but for voice messages.
  • WhatsApp is expected to release it for everyone soon.

WhatsApp launched its ‘View Once’ feature for disappearing photos and videos in 2021. It also introduced disappearing messages or self-destructing messages around the same time. Now it’s expanding this feature to voice messages. WhatsApp beta testers on Android and iOS can now start sending disappearing voice messages.

This feature works the same way as view once for photos and videos. You can send voice messages to view once so that it can be listened to only once. Also, the recipient won’t be able to save or forward the voice message. The new WhatsApp feature is available for select beta testers, according to WABetaInfo.

You can find it by downloading WhatsApp beta for Android 2.23.22.4 update from the Google Play Store, and WhatsApp beta for iOS 23.21.1.73 update from the TestFlight app.

If you’re a WhatsApp beta tester then you can follow these steps to start using it.

  • Open a WhatsApp chat and select the microphone button to record a voice message.
  • Once you’re done recording you’ll see the view once icon, which is the number ‘1’.
  • Tap on that and your voice message will be set to view once.
  • Even you won’t be able to listen to it once the recipient is done listening to it.

For now, the view once mode for voice messages is available only to select beta testers. So even if you’re on the WhatsApp beta voice programme, you might not have access to it yet. But it’s expected to release to more users in the coming days. You can join WhatsApp’s beta programme by downloading the beta apps from the Google Play Store and the App Store.

WhatsApp is working on more features that are currently in testing. These include a secret code feature for locked chats, pin messages in chats, and more. It has also rolled out a new UI for Android, and it’s available to beta testers.
