Xiaomi patents smartphone accessory that wirelessly charges TWS earbuds

Xiaomi seems to be working on an interesting accessory to charge your true wireless earbuds through smartphones. The CNIPA patent, first discovered by 91mobiles, is for a charging accessory that attaches to the back of the phone and has a holder to place TWS earbuds and charge them via the phone's reverse wireless charging feature. The patent description reads, "This appearance design product is a mobile phone accessory, which can be installed on the mobile phone, used to store the earphone, and charge the headset."

As you can see from the patent images, the charging accessory has two slots to place the true wireless earbuds. The charging accessory comes in two different designs - while one is meant for Realme Buds Air-like stem earbuds, the other is for Samsung Galaxy Buds type earphones with no stem. There is no way to say whether Xiaomi will actually launch this product in the future.

Xiaomi is yet to launch a smartphone that supports reverse wireless charging, although there were hints back in August that the company is working on bringing this feature to future premium smartphone. The patented design will likely support Xiaomi TWS earbuds only as every true wireless earphones differs in how that can be charged.

Separately, Xiaomi recently demoed its 40W fast wireless charging technology. It used a modified version of Mi 10 Pro with a 4,000mAh battery for the demo. The phone managed to top up 57 percent in just 20 minutes and entirely in only 40 minutes. This charging speed is almost on par with the wired fast-charging solutions that we see these days. The 40W wireless charging solution is tipped to pack a vertical air-cooler to dissipate heat. However, it could be a while before the functionality finds its way to Xiaomi smartphones.
