The update, which was first seen on Xiaomi 13 Pro in China, will be rolled out in a phased manner.
The MIUI 14 gets optimisations to enhance the performance of the OS on smartphones. One such new optimisation feature is the Smart ROM Optimisation which reduces cached storage by up to 3GB over the course of three months. The system storage has also been reduced such that devices with 128GB of storage can get up to 4GB of additional storage that has been freed up.
According to the company, the MIUI 14 boots up faster thanks to tweaks to the system that has resulted in lesser boot-up memory. The new MIUI 14 also reduces RAM occupied by as many as 19 system apps such as camera, clock, messages, etc by up to 11 percent.
The MIUI 14 also brings along a redone UI that brings freshness to the visual appearance of the OS. There are 6 new wallpapers and new card-style widgets to choose from. The company also claims to have made animations smoother and reduced "friction" while using heavier applications or files. Features such as copy text from a photo in the gallery, removing objects from an image, etc have also been added to uplift the experience.
The MIUI 14 can be seen first on the Xiaomi 13 Pro and will be followed by other high-end flagship devices such as Xiaomi 12 Pro, Mi 11 Ultra, Redmi Note 12 Pro+ 5G, Mi 11X, etc. To know the full roadmap for the update, check out our story here. The list of devices receiving MIUI 14 is as follows:
