Xiaomi Redmi 5 and Redmi 5 Plus expected to launch in India this Valentine’s Day

Last November, Xiaomi launched the Redmi Y1 and Redmi Y1 Lite smartphones in India. After these, we haven’t seen any new launches from the brand, but that is likely to change soon. The company has announced that it will be unveiling its first product in India for 2018 at an event in New Delhi on February 14th. Xiaomi hasn’t revealed the name of the phone(s) to be launched in the country at the event. However, the letter “5” in the invite points towards the unveiling of the Redmi 5 and Redmi 5 Plus in the country.

The Xiaomi Redmi 5 and Redmi 5 Plus were unveiled in China in December last year. They don’t boast many significant upgrades over their predecessors, and in terms of specs, seem to be run-of-the-mill smartphones apart from their 18:9 displays. Both phones sport all-metal unibody designs with minimal bezels on the front, and feature rear-mounted fingerprint sensors. They boot MIUI 9 based on Android Nougat out of the box.

The Redmi 5 features a 5.7-inch HD+ display, and is powered by a Snapdragon 450 processor. The handset comes in three configurations – 2GB + 16GB, 3GB + 32GB and 4GB + 64GB. The phone sports a 12MP rear snapper and a 5MP front shooter, both aided by LED flash units. The connectivity features on board are standard, and a 3,300mAh battery keeps the handset alive.

As for the Redmi 5 Plus, the phone comes with a bigger 5.99-inch full HD+ display, and is powered by a Snapdragon 625 SoC. The device comes in two models – 3GB + 32GB and 4GB + 64GB. A 4,000mAh battery keeps the show running. The phone’s camera, software and connectivity features are the same as its smaller sibling.

It’s worth mentioning that as per a few reports, Xiaomi could launch the Redmi 5 Plus as the Redmi Note 5 in India. We will know for sure in a few days, so stay tuned to 91mobiles for regular updates.
