“The MIUI 10 for Redmi 6 Pro is based on Android 8.1, whereas, the Redmi 5 gets Android 7.1 Nougat based update”
Xiaomi has been on a MIUI 10 rollout spree in India with the POCO F1 (review) and Redmi 5A (review) being the latest to get it. Now, the brand has started rolling out the same for the entry-level Redmi 6 Pro (review) and Redmi 5 (review) in India. Interestingly, while the former gets the Android 8.1 Oreo as the base software, the latter comes with Android 7.1 Nougat.
The MIUI 10 update for Redmi 6 Pro comes with version number MI805DISI and also brings the November security patch for the handset. While the version number for Redmi 5 is not known at the moment, it weighs in at 1.3GB. Moreover, just like every other Xiaomi device, the software is being rolled out in phased manner, which means if you haven’t yet received it, you will get it in coming days. Moreover, Redmi 6 Pro users can head to the official download page of the software and manually flash it. However, bear in mind that manual flashing will delete all data on the handset, so it’s recommended to take a backup first.
Despite the core software being different, the MIUI 10 update brings same set of features to both smartphones. These include the support for new gestures, new recent menu, Android P-like volume slider, new notification shade, PiP mode, autofill support, AI features, and others. There are several other features like nature sound, Hidden Apps, App vault, MIUI Calendar etc. The updated MIUI Calendar app also brings a new feature that enables the user to share festive greetings with a single click.
In case you have not received the notification for the latest update, you can check manually. You can do so easily by going to Settings > About phone > System updates > Check for updates.
