Free Fire India was scheduled to launch today.
Garena made the announcement through Free Fire India's official Instagram account. Here, the reason behind the delay is due to ensure "the best possible experience to all of our Free Fire India fans from the start." The company adds that it is refining the gameplay, and it's also working on completing the localisation of Free Fire India.
It looks like Free Fire doesn't yet meet the local authorities' requirements when it comes to localising the game for India. As part of its localisation efforts, the Singapore-based company partnered with Yotta, a Hiranandani Group firm, for local cloud hosting and storage.
It has also introduced new features such as OTP verification and in-game spending restrictions for minor players. It will also add limited playtime hours which is 3 hours for minors and 6 hours for others. Free Fire India will also have break reminders, and virtual game announcements.
Garena has assured that the Free Fire India launch will take place so rest assured you will be play in a few weeks. It also highlighted the "overwhelmingly enthusiastic response" that it received from the Indian community on the announcement of Free Fire coming back to India.
For the relaunch, Garena has roped in cricketer MS Dhoni as Free Fire India's brand ambassador. It has also introduced a character named 'Thala' based on Dhoni. There will be four other Indian sportspersons in the game including Sunil Chhetri, Saina Nehwal, Leander Paes, and Rahul Chaudhary.
