Highlights
  • Instagram is testing this new feature called “Flipside”.
  • It lets you create an alternate profile on the same Instagram account.
  • Only people you choose will be allowed to view your Flipside.

Instagram is working on a new feature that will let you create a secondary profile for select followers. It’s called “Flipside” and it will basically let you make a separate photo grid that only people you choose will be able to see. Instagram Flipside isn’t to be confused with its Close Friends feature as this one will give a totally different view of your profile.

Instagram Flipside feature

  • It looks like Instagram is currently testing this feature, and a video of it was shared on Threads by social media consultant Matt Navarra.
  • What it basically does is let you create your ‘flipside’ where you can create a new space for you and your friends. As seen in the video, you’ll be able to share feed posts and reels that will be visible only on your flipside. It’s like an alternate Instagram profile but on the same account.
  • If you’re added to someone’s flipside you’ll get to see a key icon on the top-right corner of the post. If you want to check someone’s flipside on Instagram you’ll have to swipe down on their profile.

This feature is quite similar to Close Friends, one that lets you add posts and stories that only your Close Friends list can see on Instagram. But with Flipside you get to create a different profile altogether. It’s quite confusing though for Instagram to introduce this feature alongside Close Friends.

Accounts with a large following usually tend to keep a different private account for their personal posts. But with Flipside and Close Friends, it might lead to more of a confusion, and too many things to handle on one single platform. There’s the option to create different audience lists as well so Instagram already gives you enough ways to share posts only with a select group of people.

For now, this feature is only a test with no word on whether it will release for everyone.
