Meta-owned Instagram and Facebook are down in India and other parts of the world

Meta-owned apps like Instagram, Facebook and Facebook Messenger are down in India and other parts of the world, including parts of the US. DownDetector.com had over 3 lakh people reporting outages in the US, while over 15,000 users reported issues with Instagram and Facebook in India. Those facing the outage reported issues like being unable to refresh their Instagram feed and trouble logging into Facebook.

The reason behind the outage is unclear at the moment. Only Meta-owned apps seem to be affected as of writing this story. We will update the story as and when we receive an update from the company.

Interestingly, Google-owned platforms like YouTube, Google Play Store, and Google Search were also down for many users around the same time Meta suffered its outage, as per DownDetector.com. However, we were able to use Google-owned apps and it doesn’t seem the outage is as bad as it is with Meta.

Instagram and Facebook users have taken to X (formerly Twitter) to report issues with the apps and make light of the matter through memes as well. This is the first time this year that Meta has seen an outage like this. One expects the apps to come back online soon enough.
