HMD Global refreshes smartphone lineup, launches the Nokia 2.1, Nokia 3.1 and Nokia 5.1

HMD Global, the brand that holds the license to manufacture and sell Nokia branded smartphones, today hosted a global product launch event in Moscow, Russia. At the event, the brand announced a host of new phones, including the new generation Nokia 2.1, Nokia 3.1 and Nokia 5.1. The brand claims that the refreshed line-up brings over 50 percent performance upgrades over their predecessors viz. the Nokia 2 (first impressions), Nokia 3 (first impressions) and the Nokia 5 (review) respectively.

Nokia 2.1

Speaking of the Nokia 2.1 first, the handset offers a 5.5-inch HD display and is powered by Qualcomm Snapdragon 425 processor. The processor is backed by 1GB of RAM and comes with 8GB of expandable storage. On the software front, the handset runs Android Oreo (Go Edition). In the camera department, the Nokia 2.1 gets an 8-megapixel rear camera with autofocus and a 5-megapixel front shooter for selfies. The phone utilises a 4,000mAh battery, which promises to deliver two days worth of battery life. The smartphone is being offered in Blue/Copper, Blue/Silver, and Grey/Silver hues.

Nokia 3.1

Coming to the Nokia 3.1, the smartphone flaunts an aluminium unibody design with a 5.2-inch 18:9 display bearing HD+ resolution. The 2.5D curved glass on the display is protected by a layer of Corning Gorilla Glass. In the performance department, the handset gets an octa-core MediaTek 6750 processor. As for the RAM and storage, the phone will be offered in two variants – 2GB + 16GB, and 3GB + 32GB. For imaging, the handset gets a 13-megapixel rear camera with an LED flash, and an 8-megapixel selfie shooter. The Nokia 3.1 runs stock Android 8.0 Oreo out of the box, and is powered by a 2,990mAh battery. The handset is being offered in three hues – Blue/Copper, Black/Chrome, and White/Iron.

Nokia 5.1

Lastly, the Nokia 5.1 flaunts an all-metal unibody design crafted from a single block of 6000 series aluminium. The smartphone ships with a 5.5-inch IPS display with 18:9 aspect ratio, full HD+ resolution and Corning Gorilla Glass 3 layer on top. At its core, the handset gets a 2GHz octa-core MediaTek MT6755S processor to drive the performance. For RAM and storage, the 5.1 gets the same two variants as the 3.1. The phone offers a 16-megapixel rear camera with LED flash and PDAF, and an 8-megapixel selfie shooter. The Nokia 5.1 gets three colour options viz. Copper, Tempered Blue, and Black. The phone boots stock Android Oreo and comes with a 3,000mAh battery. Both the Nokia 3.1 and Nokia 5.1 are Android One devices and Android P ready.

As for the availability, the Nokia 2.1 and Nokia 5.1 will be made available starting July 2018, whereas the Nokia 3.1 will arrive in June. The Nokia 2.1 will set you back by $115 (~Rs 7,800), the Nokia 3.1 will retail for €139 (~Rs 10,900) and the Nokia 5.1 will cost €189 (~Rs 14,800).
