“The alleged image sample of the Nokia 9 PureView comes with its set of aberrations and has been edited and compressed, but appears commendable.”
The Nokia 9 PureView is reportedly set for launch at the Mobile World Congress 2019 in Barcelona. The penta-camera setup of the upcoming Nokia flagship has been a much-hyped feature, with HMD Global taking it to the next level in terms of multi-camera smartphone photography. Now, photographer Konsta Punkka has taken to Instagram to share what looks like an absolutely stunning image of a landscape, purportedly taken by the Nokia 9 PureView. The post has since been shared by HMD Global Chief Product Officer Juho Sarvikas on Twitter and has us really excited in terms of what the device can offer.
Super excited to have Konsta join us on the stage this Sunday at #MWC19 as we have something extraordinary to share with all of you 🔥https://t.co/u4FfIUwcPP pic.twitter.com/ELFVkqUsaM— Juho Sarvikas (@sarvikas) February 22, 2019
Before further comments, it is important to note that the image has been edited and tweaked and gone through Instagram’s compression algorithms. The EXIF data has also been removed in process, so there’s no way of confirming the exact imaging hardware that was used to shoot it. Nevertheless, the image shows an exceptionally wide dynamic range, with a massive range of colour tones spread across the scope of the image. There is a great balance of warm tones, which in these types of photographs could have easily been overwhelming.
It is also pretty evident that the shadows have been reduced, hence reducing the overall blacks from the frame. This, however, did not bring in excessive noise into the image, although the fine details do appear to be slightly mushed. This, of course, could just be because of compression, but it is likelier that the HDR photography of the Nokia 9 PureView can still lead to some banding and HDR halo in tricky contrast situations. While the blues are dealt with nicely, there is a bit of chromatic aberration present in the edges of the topography and in the little piece of sky visible.
Nevertheless, if this has indeed come from the Nokia 9 PureView, we would be very excited to see what it can achieve in real life. Punkka, the photographer who shot this, will be at MWC 2019 to talk more about the device that shot this, as per Sarvikas’ tweet. While that is a positive nod towards the device, a separate story has already revealed the starting Nokia 9 PureView price.
According to tipster Ishan Agarwal, the Nokia 9 PureView price for the base variant will be €599 (approx. Rs 48,300). The smartphone is expected to come with Snapdragon 845 SoC, though company could to bring out a Snapdragon 855-powered variant, which is possibly going to improve the imaging performance even further and be accordingly priced higher. In case the flagships are not quite your area of focus, HMD Global will reportedly launch budget devices too at MWC. The revealed devices include the Nokia 4.2 (priced at €199 or Rs 16,000) and the Nokia 1 Plus (priced at €99 or Rs 8,000). The Nokia 3.2 price has been leaked too, pegged at €149 (about Rs 12,000).
