OnePlus 12 rumour mill has been buzzing for a while now. While we had heard that it’d be using brighter displays than its precursor, the company has now made it official that the OnePlus 12 will indeed be making a breakthrough in terms of not just brightness but also image quality and power efficiency. This would be thanks to the X1 OLED displays from Chinese display manufacturer BOE. Moreover, the OnePlus 12 has been confirmed to feature the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 processor, which was just announced by Qualcomm in Hawaii.
Incidentally, a demo unit of the OnePlus 12 has surfaced online. We get a hint of its design from these images.
OnePlus 12 first look
We get a look at the OnePlus 12 demo unit from different angles. Although the rear side is covered and we don’t get to see its rear camera setup, we see the other design elements because of those cutouts.
The OnePlus signature alert slider is present on the left side of the device. We also get to learn the phone has an IR blaster at the top, a volume rocker and a power button on the right side. The display has a central punch-hole cutout. Speaking of it, here are its other details:
OnePlus 12 and Ace 3 with X1 OLED display: features
OnePlus has announced the use of BOE’s X1 OLED displays on the OnePlus 12 and OnePlus Ace 3 (which could be rebranded as the OnePlus 12R for India and other global markets).
- The OnePlus 12 is confirmed to feature a 2K display while the OnePlus Ace 3 (or 12R) will sport a 1.5K panel.
- It’s an LTPO panel which means you could get an adaptive refresh rate.
- OnePlus 12 display could sport “sunlight-highlighting algorithms” for better visibility when you are out and about.
- These would also benefit from OPPO’s P1 display chip and BOE’s “single-pixel calibrating technology” for granular calibration at the sub-pixel level. This could lend better colours and less noise.
- The new BOE panel is also said to be 13 per cent lower in power consumption.
- This would be the first DisplayMate A+ graded display from China. It could break 18 records, as per OnePlus.
The company also claims this screen would have 6 major technological breakthroughs, 9 global firsts, and 12 global premieres. It has not exactly specified what these are yet.
OnePlus 12 specifications (expected)
- Display: It could have a 6.82-inch 120Hz 2K LTPO OLED display with 2,600 nits of brightness, and 2160Hz PWM dimming.
- Processor: Inside, it will carry a Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 SoC.
- Cameras: OnePlus 12 could bring a 50MP primary camera (with OIS), a 48MP ultrawide angle camera, and a 64MP 3x periscope telephoto camera (also with OIS).
- Battery: The phone could be on thanks to a 5,400mAh battery with 100W wired charging, and 50W wireless charging support.
- Memory: You could get it in up to 24GB RAM and 1TB storage combination.
Since this is OnePlus, we suppose the flurry of leaks, rumours, and revelations should continue till the phone goes official.
