OnePlus Open: light-weight foldable with no crease visibility

  • OnePlus talks about the work behind making its first foldable phone, and how it aimed at delivering a device that feels like a single-display phablet smartphone. It used an improved ‘Flexion’ hinge with a single-spine architecture that reduced the number of components to just 69 parts. This not only reduces the weight of the hinge but the device as well.
  • The company also used titanium alloy and carbon fiber for durability that also reduces the weight of the foldable.
  • OnePlus assures the crease on the Open is “virtually imperceptible.” This was possible because of the Flexion Hinge that lets the phone fold completely flat thereby reducing the presence of any crease. So users should get an “uninterrupted Pro tablet-like experience” with the OnePlus Open.
  • OnePlus Open is confirmed to feature the company’s iconic alert slider. On the foldable, it’s going to be bigger, and adjusted so it’s easier for one-handed operation.
  • The company has also reduced the height and width of the module inside the phone by 1.7mm and 1mm, respectively. This helps save up to 42 percent of additional internal space.

Sony LYTIA-T808 camera sensor on the OnePlus Open

OnePlus Open will feature a Sony LYTIA-T808 camera sensor, a first for a foldable phone. This camera sensor is equipped with ‘Sony’s Dual-layer Transistor Pixel’ or ‘Pixel Stacked’ technology. OnePlus explains that this technology is one “wher eight adsorption-retention structure was redesigned from ground up, allowing for doubling the light captured and stored for conversion (full well capacity) despite a relative smaller sensor size.”
