The Note 13 5G has witnessed some design changes in contrast to the previous Note 12 series. Although the overall design remains relatively unchanged, there are modifications to the rear camera module. It has been slightly expanded, and the 2MP macro camera lens has been repositioned. The Note 13 5G flaunts a slimmer profile, measuring 7.6mm, as compared to the Note 12 Pro’s 7.98mm thickness. The Note 13 5G is available in Stealth Black, Prism Gold, and Arctic White colour options. While the Note 12 Pro 5G can be purchased in Stardust Purple, Frosted Blue, and Onyx Black colours.

Xiaomi has kept the fan-favourite 3.5mm headphone jack and the IR blaster in the latest Note series well, with the exception of the top-end Note 13 Pro+ variant. While the display size remains consistent for both the Note 13 5G and Note 12 Pro 5G, the new Note 13 5G stands out with a noticeable reduction in bezel size. This enhancement contributes to a more immersive viewing experience.

For display, the Note 13 5G equips a 6.67-inch AMOLED panel with a resolution of 2,400 x 1,080 pixels (FHD+) and a pixel density of 394 ppi. It has a refresh rate of up to 120Hz and peak brightness of 1,000 nits for clear visual even under direct sunlight. The smartphone also comes with thinner bezels and claims a body-to-screen ratio of 93.3%. Corning Gorilla Glass 5 ensures that the display remains protected.   

The Redmi Note 12 Pro 5G is equipped with a 6.67-inch AMOLED panel, paired with a resolution of 2,400 x 1,080 pixels (FHD+) and a pixel density of 394 ppi. With a refresh rate of up to 120Hz and a maximum brightness of 900 nits, the phone is smooth while browsing and remains legible in bright surroundings. The panel is Widevine L1 certified and boasts HDR10+ support, enabling seamless HD content streaming on OTT platforms like Netflix. With Dolby Vision support, the smartphone delivers an enhanced visual experience. It also comes with Corning Gorilla Glass 5 protection. 

In terms of display, the Redmi Note 12 Pro 5G takes a lead, with its HD content streaming capabilities, however the Note 13 5G does offer a brighter display panel.

The Note 13 comes with an 108MP Samsung ISOCELL HM6 1/1.67-inch sensor with 3x in-sensor zoom, an 8MP ultra-wide camera and a 2MP macro lens. At the front, the device equips a 16MP camera. The videography is capped at 1080/30FPS for both the rear camera and the front camera. 

On the other hand, the Note 12 Pro 5G equips a 50MP Sony IMX766 primary camera, paired with the same 8MP ultra-wide and 2MP macro lens. The handset also comes with a 16MP front camera. The Note 12 Pro 5G can capture videos up to 4K/30FPS with the rear camera and 1080P/30FPS for the selfie camera. 

In terms of camera performance, the Redmi Note 12 Pro 5G will offer better images owing to its OIS-enabled primary camera, which will result in less blur in the images and reduced camera shake in videos. The handset can also capture higher resolution videos as compared to the Note 13 5G. 

Redmi Note 13 5G vs Redmi Note 12 Pro 5G: performance

The Redmi Note 13 5G is driven by the MediaTek Dimensity 6080 SoC, coupled with a Mali-G57 MC2 GPU. In contrast, the Note 12 Pro 5G is powered by the MediaTek Dimensity 1080 SoC, paired with a Mali-G68 MC4 GPU. Both systems run on MIUI, with the Note 13 5G featuring the latest MIUI 14 based on Android 13, while the Note 12 Pro 5G comes with MIUI 13 based on Android 12. 

Both chipsets are popular mid-range choices, however, the Dimensity 1080 features a higher clock speed at 2.6GHz as compared to the Dimensity 6080’s 2.4GHz. On paper, the MediaTek Dimensity 1080 is a more powerful processor which should lend the Redmi Note 12 Pro 5G a better performance output in comparison to the Note 13 5G.
